Goals in the opening and dying seconds gave Barcelona a 2-0 win over Valencia and meant they momentarily stretched their lead to five points over Real Madrid at the top of La Liga, ahead of their rivals' game with Malaga on Saturday night. However it was far from a vintage performance from the leaders, who were completely outplayed in the first half and looked nervy and tired after their exploits against Paris Saint-Germain in midweek.
